Press Release to Mark Global Hand Hygiene Day

Hand Hygiene Day 2020

Today is being celebrated all over the world as Hand Hygiene Day. Hand Hygiene Day mobilizes people around the world to increase adherence to hand hygiene in health care facilities, thus protecting health care workers and patients from infections and is usually marked on the 5th of May every year.

The theme of this year’s campaign is

“SAVE LIVES: Clean your hands.” This is very apt in view of the current COVID-19 Pandemic which continues to wreak havoc worldwide.

 Campaign Goals

The main goal of the Global Hand Hygiene Day is to recognize that hand washing is one of the most effective actions you can take to reduce the spread of  pathogens and prevent infections, including the COVID-19 virus. Health workers and community members alike have a role to play in preventing infections by practicing  frequent hand washing.

World Health Organization (WHO) and Partners aim to:

i.    Make hand hygiene a global priority

Inspire hnd hygiene and behavior change.

ii.    Engage with health care workers in their role in clean care and the prevention of infections.

iii.   A call to action for policymakers to provide safe work environments for health workers including Pharmacists and empowering them in providing clean care.

Let’s give everyone a clean hand by encouraging regular hand washing with soap under running water.

Pharmacists  ensure adequate provision of quality Hand Sanitizers for regular use by everyone.
